BMGT30100 Leadership and Change Management

Course Overview. Change affects all types of organizations within the public or private sectors while forces for change continue to grow and the pace of change is accelerating at an ever-increasing rate. Within this context this module is designed to introduce participants to the theories and practice of leading and managing change in contemporary organisations. It explores the hard (structure and strategy) and soft (people) issues of leading change which organizations need to understand in order to develop flexibility and adaptability in the face of an increasingly unpredictable environment. The focus in the module is on responsible business as a core principle underwriting change management concepts with a particular emphasis on the importance of an ethical approach to the leadership of change . These principles of both Responsible Business and Ethical leadership underwrite many organisational issues such as communication with stakeholders, power and politics ,, learning, motivation as some of the many variables that make up the world of organisational life. The module draws on past and current research identifying critical issues and debates around competing theories and accounts of change practice. Participants tend to come from a wide range of international cultural and educational backgrounds which is highly facilitative of the global perspective of the change environment. TEACHING METHODS. Methods include slide supported lectures, video, and various types of discussion forums ASSESSMENTS Group work projects and Individual Assignments.
