HIS20280 Early Modern England, 1485-1600
The sixteenth and seventeenth centuries saw seismic changes in English politics and society. This course will chart those changes focussing on the reformation and its implementation, dynastic intrigue and aristocratic disaffection, social and economic change as well as the political circumstances that led to the English executing their own king. We will also be examining the development of a new sense of Englishness, indomitable and proud, despite domestic turmoil and uneven success in wars.
